BMW just announced several updates and upgrades for its models as part of its annual fall update cycle. While the improvements to Fall 2020 are primarily focused on reducing emissions and increasing efficiency, there are other new features worth mentioning.
Although diesel may seem to be an unpopular word in the United States, European customers still want torquey compression ignition engines. BMW has responded to those needs by introducing six-cylinder 48-volt mild hybrid diesel engines for its 3Series and 8 Series models. The new units produce 286 horsepower (210kilowatts) as well as 340 hp (225 kW) in the 40d and 30d versions, respectively. The 330d Sedan can sprint from a standstill up to 62 miles per an hour (0-100 km per hour) in 5.3 seconds thanks to its electrical support.
The smallest BMW models on sale get new engines. The 116i gets a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine and the 120i gets a four-cylinder unit. The new three-cylinder diesel engine in the 216d Gran Coupe has a peak output power of 116 horsepower (85 kW). This gives the car a sprint time of 10.3 seconds from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph).
