The electric BMW i3 MegaCity has a range of more than 250 km (160 miles), and a top speed around 160 km/h (100 mph).

Car & Driver has new details about the upcoming BMW i3 MegaCity electric car.

According to the report, the i3’s electric motor will produce 150 PS (110kW /148 bhp), with a range of approximately 257 km (160 mi) and a maximum speed of 160 km/h (1100 mph).

According to the report, the compact EV will go under construction at a BMW factory in Leipzig. Production will be 40,000 units per year.

Carbon-fiber will also be used extensively in the i3, including the construction of the passenger cells, which will be made from carbon fiber-reinforced poly (CFRP). Aluminum chassis is also part of the “LifeDrive architecture”. The vehicle will feature a rear-mounted electric motor and the batteries are located under the floor.

BMW will roll out the i3 MegaCity under its new ‘i’ sub-brand in 2013. This automaker created the brand to bring a new range hybrid-electric and fully electric vehicles to the market.

The vehicle’s price tag will be approximately $35,000 in the United States according to Car & Driver, but we anticipate the i3 starting at EUR40,000 in Europe.
