The mass-market i4 could be the next generation of BMW’s EVs.
Soon, the BMW hatchback will be joined by the handsome BMW i8 sport car. The i4 was shown off by the i Vision Dynamics Concept. It had a range 373 miles (600 km), and promises to be the first mainstream, mass-market EV from Bavaria. Although we don’t yet know the exact design of the final product, this rendering gives us an idea what to expect.
If (or when) the BMW i4 finally goes into production, this is how it could look. Although many of the styling cues from i Vision Dynamics Concept are still present, it is far more fully realized and production-ready than its concept counterpart.
One, the front fascia was redesigned. The kidney grille has a more classic look than the original concept’s. The headlights have also been slightly revised, with larger housings under the LED accents. The body is unchanged, but the roofline has been dramatically altered to create a unique four-door configuration. Only the wheels are more in line with other BMW models.
The new i4 may not be available in sheet metal until at least 2020. However, BMW claims that its range will be significantly improved over the current generation of the i4. BMW claims that the vehicle will be more affordable and be able to travel 435 miles (705 kilometers) in one charge.
BMW buyers will be content with the current range, the i3 or i8, until then. The i3 received a sporty “S”, trim level, and the i8 got the Roadster trim.
