This is the BMW i8’s swan song.
According to an official statement last Wednesday, the BMW i8 will be out of production by April. However, this does not mean the electrified sports car has lost its merits. It is the best-selling car in its class, and it has the most performance.
What is the performance of this car compared to other sports cars. Interestingly, the Porsche 911 Carrera is up against it. What’s the competition? It’s a good old drag race. Let’s first compare these cars in black and white before you start watching the drag racing video at the top of this page.
The BMW i8 Roadster is capable of producing 369 horsepower (275 kilowatts) as well as 420 pound-feet (569 Newton meterss) of torque. This is due to its turbocharged 1.3 Liter inline-three-combustion engine and two electric motors.
The Polestar 1’s 2.0L four-banger and dual electric motors, however, produces more power. The total output is 619 horsepower (462 kW) with 738 lbft (1,001Nm) of torque. However, it’s around 2,000 more heavy than the hybrid Bimmer.
The Porsche 911 Carrera weighs in at the same weight as the BMW i8. It is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo flat-6 engine that produces 379 hp (283 kW), and 331 lbf (449 Nm) respectively.
Which one of these three is fastest in a straight-line race. You can watch the video at the 7:11 mark.
