It was first obtained by the iX M60.

BMW M is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, as it prepares for the launch of its second standalone model in five-decades. The XM performance SUV, which will debut later in the year, will be the first to sport a black BMW M logo. The three-color emblem will be replaced by a simplified logo that is blacked out. This logo will be used on all future performance cars in the division.

The iX M60 electric SUV was the first to feature the new logo. BMW has now confirmed that it will be used on all future BMW M models. As the only contrast color to the main black hue, the new logo is made of titanium bronze. The XM will be the next to receive the new black emblem, before any new M models. Purists will be pleased to know that the current M products will keep the original three-color design.

“The overall direction for complete new cars will be that we have a black badge on them and the existing cars, like the M4, we won’t change,” BMW sales vice president Timo Resch stated to WhichCar. The next-generation cars will have a black M badge. A black badge will only be given to new platforms or completely new models.

The updated BMW M logo features a new color-coding system that applies to all trims in the M portfolio. It indicates the relative position of each M vehicle within the hierarchy, as well as whether it is performance-oriented or more luxurious. For example, the has a three-color logo with a red surround. The iX M60, on the other hand, features a black logo with a gold surround.

The M division’s three iconic colors, light, dark, and red, won’t be lost. They will continue to be used in new ways. The Bavarian company is open to changing its DNA, but it will not abandon its traditional values. These colors are an integral part of BMW’s identity and we will keep playing with them as we plan for the future. These colors belong to us, and you can see them on our race cars. These colors can be used in many different ways,” Resch said.
