It will reportedly produce 600 horsepower and drive the rear wheels.
We know at least one additional new BMW M vehicle will be arriving this year. The automaker made the announcement at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. Now, Franciscus van Meel, the BMW M boss, has teased it via his Instagram. He showed off the modern-day 3.0 CSL model.
This is the M4 CSL based Hommage model. It uses the coupe’s hard edges as a base for its bespoke body panels. We are unable to spot all the distinctive styling cues due to the car’s M-inspired livery. Above the aggressive lower bumper opening, which is covered by the license plate, are two kidney grilles. Round intakes on the bumper’s outside look like they are feeding air to the cooling systems.
Teasers also reveal the coupe’s rear. We can see the spoiler mounted on the roof and what appears to be new rear fenders. These flow into the large wing that runs across the trunk. The rear diffuser is obscured by shadows, but four exhaust pipes can be seen sticking out of the back. We can see that the car has wider rear and front fenders. There are likely other styling changes we don’t know about.
BMW has announced the arrival of a new M car, but we don’t have much information. Rumours suggest that the model will produce 600 horsepower (447 Kilowatts) as well as 516 pound-feet (706 Newton-meters). The coupe will reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. It can also accelerate to speeds below 200 mph (320 km/h).
BMW claims that the rear wheels will be powered by an eight-speed ZF transmission, but a sticker at the rear says “6MTFTW”, which refers to a six speed manual. We can’t see any other stickers.
BMW’s new 3.0 CSL will go on sale for EUR600,000. That’s quite a lot for the M Hommage model. BMW will produce 50 copies of the car, according to reports. This is in celebration of 50 years of its BMW M division. We also saw BMW unveil the M3 Touring wagon last week. In May, the CSL cover was unveiled.
