BMW art cars are a tradition since 1975, when the 3.0 CSL was given a vibrant livery by Alexander Calder to mark its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. FUTURA 2000, a contemporary artist, has teamed up with BMW in order to create three unique versions the sports coupe. Each version is hand-painted and includes some interior tweaks. The M2 Competition will receive a limited edition of 500 cars with the artist’s signature. The pricing details are not known, but it is obvious that the coupe will be priced higher than the regular model at $58,900 MSRP. It is expected to go on sale in June.
These cars are unique. The cars are equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels in Jet Black and have front and rear aprons that are individually painted. The trim strips on the instrument panel and center console have a unique design by FUTURA 2000. Polar Blue stitching gives the seats a contrast effect. A sports steering wheel is also being added to the cars in leather and Alcantara, with a gray 12 o’clock marking. The artist’s signature is also on the sills.
