Germany is the winner.
The Volkswagen GolfR is a huge favorite of the Carwow. The potent hatchback has been pitted against more powerful vehicles and the results have not always been as we expected. The Golf R is now ready to face the latest BMW M3 Competition.
Mat Watson is the owner of the fast sedan in the video. It’s an RWD example and costs PS87,000 or $117,800 depending on current exchange rates. It is powered by a 3.0-liter twin turbo gasoline engine that produces 510 horsepower (380kilowatts) as well as 450 pound-feet of torque (610 Newton-meters). Although it is heavier than the competitor, it is still much more powerful.
The latest generation Volkswagen Golf R is placed against the M3. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine produces 320 horsepower (239 kW), and 310 lbft (420 Nm). These power outputs are channeled to the four wheels via a dual-clutch transmission with a 4Motion AWD system. The Bimmer is a much more affordable option, with a starting cost of around PS40,000 in the United Kingdom.
The actual drag race begins after a brief comparison of the exhaust sounds in the video. Both cars start well off the line, and the gap between them is very minimal at the beginning. The race becomes more difficult for the fast hatch to keep up and eventually loses the race. Although we don’t usually spoil drag races results in our articles it is important to note that the difference this time is too great.
At the rolling-start discipline, the outcome of the race is the same. The M3’s faster-reacting transmission gives it an advantage. Guess what? The brake test is the final challenge. The Bimmer wins another comfortably.
