How did the BMW M3 GTS perform on the Ring? It was only a few seconds quicker than the CSL over years. Read the full story.

People who hoped that the BMW M3 GTS could crush the Nurburgring might be disappointed. In 7m 48s, the car lapped the Nordschleife.

The time is still two seconds faster than the Sports Auto tests on the Porsche 911 Carrera S, and a 2003 BMW M3 CSL. It’s also 17 seconds faster that the time Sport Auto cleared in BMW M3 E92.

Many expected the M3 GTS would be faster on the circuit. The car uses a 444-hp (331 kW, 450 PS) V8 engine. It can reach 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and cover a mile in 22.5 seconds. It is coupled to a seven speed M Dual Clutch Transmission. The maximum speed of the car is 305 km/h (190 MPH).

The BMW M3 GTS was a more solidly built chassis that weighed 70 kg less than M3 and cost EUR115,000 before taxes. This meant it would be able to perform better on the Ring. It did well in Hockenheim where it beat even the Ferrari F430’s 1m 12.5s.
