Chief of product development calls the M3 pickup a joke. This model will be displayed alongside other prototypes made from M3 at the M5 Concept debut, which takes place April 1st.
We knew this would be a joke.
In retrospect, our speculation that the M3 pickup would be a one-off vehicle to transport parts around a manufacturing facility is funny. But, what will BMW do with this prototype anyway?
Autoblog.com claims that BMW considers the M3 pickup a joke. This model will be launched alongside the M5 Concept, which is real and will debut April 1st.
Dirk Arnold, head product development, said Autoblog.com, “Ah, yes, everybody’s been talking to that pickup.” This isn’t, however, an April Fools Joke. It is highly unlikely that BMW ever makes such a vehicle in any segment of its product line.
He didn’t have the need to close the door so tightly. It’s likely the right thing to take.
BMW will unveil the M5 concept in a press conference near Munich on April 1, along with several M3-based prototypes that have never been made, including this El Camino-ized M3.
A M3 with a folding top will be available. This one might be able to make it into production.
