Even before its official debut, the first ever long-roof M3 was already making history.
The BMW M3 Touring set a new record at a famous race track even before it was officially launched. BMW set the Nurburgring Nordschleife record for fastest wagon. It completed the circuit in 7 minutes and 35.060 seconds. This was 10 seconds faster than the Mercedes-AMG E63S record-holder. However, camouflage was used on the car that won the race. However, the car’s tan interior and how the M3 Touring managed to conquer the notorious race track was clearly visible.
BMW has not yet provided details on the M3 Touring’s powertrain. However, it is expected to use the same twin turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine as the sedan. The six-cylinder engine produces 503 horsepower (375kilowatts) as well as 479 pound-feet (475 Newton-meters) of torque in the three-box. The M3 Touring manual or tail-happy version might not be available. However, we will know at launch.
BMW officially announced the debut of the first Touring at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will be climbing the Goodwood hills alongside the BMW M4 CSL, another important M model. BMW M’s 50th anniversary will be celebrated by the automaker’s participation in the hill climbing event. This year will also see the debut of the 2023 BMW M2 — the last M vehicle powered solely by an internal combustion engine. On June 23, 2022, the BMW M3 Touring will become fully revealed.
