BMW M340i Vs M2 Drag Race Ends in Photo Finish

Which is faster? This video will help you settle the matter.

CarWow has been releasing BMW-against-the-world drag races for quite some time now, wherein Bimmers face supposed rivals (mostly Audi RS Avantes) in their era on a straight-line race. Although it wasn’t always a win, the competition was entertaining, especially with older BMWs.

The UK car magazine decided this time to pit Bimmers against the most powerful BMW small cars – the xDrive, and the m2 Competition.

The M340i was the most popular non-M 3Serie model to be announced in November 2018. It faces serious challenges in the M2 Competition, which is lighter and more powerful.

Let’s first look at the numbers before we watch the drag racing video.

BMW M340i Vs M2 Drag Race Ends in Photo Finish

The M340i xDrive is the best drag racer because of the all-wheel-drive system that it uses. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six engine produces 382 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet (500 Newton meters) of torque. It is the most powerful non-M 3 Series ever made.

The BMW M2 Competition poses a serious threat to performance. The M2 Competition is lighter thanks to its rear-wheel drive. It also features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine with carbon fiber brace and strut brace. The M2 Competition produces up to 405 horsepower and 406 lb-ft.

This drag race uses a six-speed manual transmission for the M2 Competition, rather than the eight-speed Sport Steptronic gearbox on the M340i xDrive. The former is fun to drive on and off the track but its performance on the drag strip would depend on how skilled the driver.

You can see our meaning in the video below. We all knew why it was called a photo finish.
