BMW M4 Competition xDrive Laps ‘Ring Two Seconds Faster Than RWD Model

This car is faster than the M5 CS.

The Sport Auto team completed a lap of the Nurburgring at a speed to test how fast the BMW M4 Competition can go around this famous track. Rear-wheel-drive was used by the team and the time it achieved was 7 minutes and 30.79 seconds. We knew that the M4 Competition could achieve even greater results than we did when we wrote about the ‘Ring run eight months ago.

The weather is better this time and, most importantly the new video features the car with its four-wheel drive that channels the 3.0-liter turbocharged motor. Are you able to beat it?

Absolutely. The M4 CompetitionxDrive laps Nurburgring between 7 and 28.57 seconds. This is more than two seconds quicker than its RWD sibling. The M4 Competition xDrive lapped the circuit on the same Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, but the AWD car had less trouble finding traction in corners. The new lap is faster than the BMW M5 CS’s with it running its lap in 7:29.5 seconds. Impressive!

Dry numbers indicate that the M4 Competition produces the same power output, regardless of whether it is in RWD (or AWD) form. The 3.0-liter turbocharged, inline-six engine is shared by both cars. It produces 503 horsepower (375kilowatts) as well as 479 pound-feet of torque (650 Newton-meters). The xDrive model is slightly heavier at 3,913 lbs (1.775 kg) compared to the RWD version of 3,700 lbs (1.700 kg). When the car is equipped the M Driver’s package, the top speed is the same at 180 mph (290 km/h).

BMW will launch a more -focused version of the M4 in the form the new M4 CSL later in the year. Although it will likely be rear-wheel driven, it will be lighter and more powerful than the Competition trim. It will be interesting to see if it is faster around the Nurburgring than M4 Competition xDrive.
