This is a good price for a car that weighs in at a substantial 4,370 pounds and just under two tonnes.
The BMW M5 is a super sedan. This luxury midsize luxobarge can lap the Nordschleife in 7 mins and 38.92 second. Many will recall that this lap time was set last year by Sport Auto. This is why we bring this up. These very same people are returning to Green Hell with the M5 Competition.
The Competition’s slightly higher power and other upgrades over the standard M5 allowed them to cut three seconds off their lap time. The lap of the Nurburgring was completed in 7 minutes, 35.90 seconds. This is impressive considering that the Competition version weighs 4,370 lbs (1,982 kg). The M5 was driven by Sport Auto’s Christian Gebhardt in both cases. Therefore, it is possible to compare the lap times.
The lap time of the BMW M5 Competition may be impressive, but it is not the fastest four door car to complete a Nordschleife lap. Examples of relevant examples are the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadruglio (7.32), Mercedes-AMG GT 63S (7.25), and the Lord of all Rings – The Jaguar XE SV Project8, which ran a lap in 7 minutes 21.23 seconds. The Jag ran the fastest four-door, four-seat car around track without rear seats.
The M5 Competition is moving fast, but logic says that the M8 Gran Coupe will move even faster. We will soon see the standard version of the 6 Series Gran Coupe, but it will likely be delayed until next year. We hope Sport Auto will have the car in order to improve the lap time of the M5 Competition, but it will likely be hard to beat the GT63 S.
Keep in mind that AMG is making a hotter version its confusingly named “Four-Door Coupe”, with an 800-horsepower 73 hybrid due to arrive in 2020. It might be faster than the current fastest four-door car on the ‘Ring.
