Here’s a little sibling rivalry. It’s time for you to place your bets.
The BMW models are the most similar to all other BMW models. The M8 and M8 Competition share the same engine, transmission, and body styles. However, their weight differences are minimal at 33 pounds (15 kg).
Their price differences are huge. The price difference between them is approximately $20,000, leading to the question: Where does that money go?
CarWow’s latest drag racing video shows the M5 Competition and M8 Competition. Although the spec sheets for both cars state that the M8 is faster, here’s a demonstration.
Let’s start with the numbers. The engines of both cars are powered by a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged, intercooled DOHC 32 valve V8 engine. They also have aluminum blocks and heads and direct fuel injection. The engine produces 617 horsepower (460 KiloWatts) as well as 553 pound-feet of pulling power (750 Newton-meters).
Both cars share the same 8-speed transmission and have the same M xDrive all wheel-drive system. One sedan can seat five people, the other is a coupe that can barely fit a person at the back.
The CarWow’s video will reveal a third difference between them. You can see the clear winner of the drag race by clicking on the play button at the top of the page.
Yes, this is where 20 grand would go if you chose to enter the M8 Competition over the M5.
