BMW M5CS Features a German Race Track Like No Other Sedans Before It

The M5 CS prototype is a four-door missile.

BMW may be going SUV crazy these days, but the company still makes a fast sedan. Sport Auto around the Hockenheim has already been impressed by the M5 CS. Now, their colleagues at Auto Bild took it to the Lausitzring circuit in northeast Germany.

The new CS is still in prototype form and will be placed above the M5 Competition and the M5 Standard. Guido Naumann was the professional race car driver and it lapped the 2-mile track in just 31.88 seconds. This is nearly two seconds faster than the M5 Competition’s 1;33.40 lap.

The M5 CS beat a four-door rocket, the Jaguar XE SV Project8 (1.32.15), driven by Guido Naumann. The M5 CS’s performance comes at a high price. Auto Bild estimates that the top-tier M5 will run in the region EUR160,000. This publication is about Germany’s pricing where a bone-stock M5 starts at EUR89,193.

The M5 CS luxury sedan weighs in at 1,900 kg (4,188 lbs). It is a fast car, reaching speeds of 155 mph (250 km/h on the straight). We are impressed by the sound of the twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V8. It also produces 626 horsepower.

Auto Bild claims that the M5 CS can go from 0-60 mph (100 km/h), in just three seconds, to 0-60 mph (200 km/h), in approximately 10 seconds. It remains to be determined if these numbers are enough to allow BMW to win the Nurburgring sedan title. It would need to beat the 7/23 lap time for the new AMG GT 63S Four-Door Coupe.
