BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics will create a new supercar. It will likely be powered by the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 from Bavaria to compete with the R8 or the Porsche 911.
Autocar.co.uk reports that BMW could replace its M6 top-performing model with a new model to rival the Audi R8.
The new model will feature a V8-powered sports car/supercar based on the Bavarian brand’s Vision Efficient Dynamics design. The Vision ED concept featured a hybrid diesel-electric system that produced 356 bhp (258 kW), and 800 Nm (590 lbft) of torque. The model had a turbocharged 3-cylinder diesel motor, which makes it difficult to imagine that the engine would be placed under an R8 competitor’s hood. The engine could make it onto the streets in a BMW 1-Series or 3-Series BMW, but the new supercar will likely choose the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 BMW.
With its robust and comfortable dimensions, the 6-Series was more of a tourer than a sports car. The new supercar will be competing against the Porsche 911 and AMG’s upcoming baby SLS.
Klause Draeger is head of research and design at BMW. He stated that to make a car as competitive, it must be “intelligent” and “stylish-looking.”
