BMW is working on an aero package to the performance coupe

The new M8 Coupe and Cabrio version was the latest member of BMW’s M family. Bavarian manufacturer regards it as a supercar, and doesn’t see the point in making a faster, more expensive and more powerful car. The new is available in Competition trim and boasts 617 horsepower (460kilowatts) thanks to BMW’s twin-turbo V8 engine. As this spy shot suggests, performance upgrades are likely for the M offering.

Here is the prototype camouflaged M8 Coupe, showcasing its capabilities. Nurburgring. It is almost identical to the production model. But what really caught our eye was the fixed wing on the boot lid. Let’s now take a closer look at the exterior.

The test car is riding on what appears to be optional wheels that come with the Competition package, which are already available for M8. The front looks identical to the production M8, with the exception of the blackout treatment for the large kidney grille ( , but not as large as the one in the Construct 4). Only noticeable difference is the shape of the prototype’s side-gills, which are different from the M8 Coupe or M8 Convertible.

However, the spoiler at the rear is very different to the one that rests on top of the decklid of the M8 production model. This is a fixed unit, and doesn’t have any active electronics. It is therefore not surprising that it exists. It is possible that BMW has developed additional aerodynamic components which could be offered to customers in the M Performance catalog. Another option is the hardcore, track-oriented M8 variant that could be branded Clubsport, although it’s likely too early to see prototypes in development.
