BMW announced that it is working on luxurious models to be placed above the 7 Series flagship. These luxury models will naturally come at a higher price than the 7 Series flagship.
According to Automotive News‘s development chief Klaus Froehlich, BMW is currently developing new models that will retail for $170,000 (EUR150,000), and higher. The 750LiXDrive, which is currently on sale in Germany, starts at EUR115,000. The M760Li excellence, which debuted earlier in the month in Geneva, will soon take its place.
These new models will fill the gap between the 7 Series & Rolls-Royce and will be directly competitive with Daimler’s Mercedes-Maybach division. At this time, it is unclear if the new luxury models will be higher-end derivatives of 7 Series or if BMW is creating a completely different family of models such as the 8 Series.
We heard a while back that the X7 three row SUV will be spawned a four-seater model. This is likely to be one of the models suggested by the company official. We do know that BMW won’t follow Mercedes-Maybach’s recipe. Froehlich stated that the Bavarians wouldn’t use “4 or 5 wheels [in length] and add different thicknesses of chrome packages.”
We will likely get a glimpse of what is to come when BMW unveils a limited-run 7 Series Centennial Edition. It will be a celebration of BMW’s 100th anniversary and will include a premium interior and exterior styling tweaks as well as standard equipment.
