The BMW Theatre Screen will be unveiled at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show. This is the German brand’s presentation of the next big step in car entertainment. The display is 31.0 inches in diagonal (78.74 cms) and can display content at resolutions up to 8K.
Rear passengers can activate the Theater Screen. It deploys from the roof, sun blinds are moved into place and ambient lighting dims the cabin. Hans Zimmer, an Academy Award-winning composer, also plays a customized sound experience. You can choose from a 16/9, 21/9, or 32:9 aspect ratio.
Amazon and BMW partner to bring Fire TV functionality onto the Theater Screen. You can stream the content using the vehicle’s 5G connection. There’s also an HDMI connection so that you can hook up a Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X while on the road.
Bowers & Wilkins surround sound is 30 speakers high and 1,500 watts power. This will make your content sound great. The seatbacks have speakers that allow you to feel the sound in your body. A mode allows you to direct as much sound into the rear passenger compartment as possible, in order not to distract the driver. If the driver is concerned about occupants, they can use headphones.
A tilt control allows you to get the best view possible. The volume can also be adjusted via the control panels located on the handles of the doors.
Our colleagues from Motor1 Germany were able to see the Theatre Screen in action before CES. They reported that the vehicle was heavily camouflaged and appeared to be the upcoming next-gen BMW 7 Series. BMW representatives told them that the huge display would also be available in luxury-class models. This suggests that the XM crossover might also be available.
Motor1’s people who saw the Theatre Screen thought the image was “razor sharp.” The sound quality from the Bowers & Wilkins sound systems was equally impressive. According to BMW representatives, the version they saw was close to serial production.
