BMW X3 M Modified by Tuner Has Pure Rear Wheel-Drive Mode
You can now drift your X3M.
Tuners can alter more than the car’s power output through the clever manipulation of the on-board computers. Computers are used to control almost every aspect of modern cars, including the drivetrain, safety features, and infotainment. This makes it difficult for average car owners to maintain their vehicles, but it also opens up new opportunities for tuners. For example, the BMW M is now equipped with a rear-wheel drive mode thanks to the Mission performance tuners.
Although it’s not unusual to see tuners add impressive horsepower to turbocharged engine with a simple tune file. A new market is slowly developing. Now with greater computer-integration, tuners can access more aspects of a vehicle. Tuners can now add flex fuel capabilities to cars, reprogram automatic transmissions and change the way your brake lights respond to different brake pressures. These features are great, but Mission Performance has made it possible for X3M owners to transform their SUV with all-wheel drive into a rear-wheel driven drift missile by flipping a switch.
The team is still working on the new tune and will release it soon. This feature is already available from BMW on the BMW M5 & M8 so BMW has the capability to offer it from the factory. However, Mission Performance decided not to add it to the X3 M. They offer the option for owners to drive a BMW performance SUV with rear-wheel drive.
It’s easy to see why the X3 M can do incredible donuts with no intervention from the front wheels. This allows you to have both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive at the touch of a button.
