The German SAV passed the much-feared safety test with flying colors.
There are many safety checks that we must pass to ensure our lives in the event of an emergency. The most fearsome of all is the moose-test. It’s named after the maneuver that you must perform in case of an obstacle or, in this instance, a moose suddenly appearing in the middle.
This test is conducted by several independent companies, including km77.com. This publication’s latest subject is the BMW X3, which was updated for its Life Cycle Impulse model year 2022.
This moose test sample was a diesel-fed, X3, with an all-wheel drivetrain. There were many options available, including the M package which reduced its suspension. The car also had a larger set of wheels, 20 inches in fact, rather than the standard 18 inches. They were also larger, measuring 245mm in front and 275mm back.
The X3 was able to travel at 47.8 mph (77 km/h) and almost aced its first attempt if it wasn’t for the cone that was struck during the sharp left-hand maneuver. During this attempt, you could see the X3 bouncing around and sliding.
The X3’s best speed was 50.3 mph (81 km/h), where it evaded every cone without any problems. It is interesting to note, however, that the tester was unable to duplicate the flawless attempt at 49.1mph (79 km/h).
The driver also noted that the slalom portion of the tests was easy. The steering was responsive but the vehicle’s weight meant that he couldn’t go faster. The BMW X3 finished the slalom course in 24.5 seconds. This is the same time as the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which was tested by the publication before.
