BMW executives have decided to launch a smaller X4 model in 2014 after the success of the X6SAV.
BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA is expected to produce between 150,000 and 240,000 units annually.
The X4 will be competing with the Land Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan, as well as the upcoming AudiQ6.
The X4 will carry the X3’s 4- and 6-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines, as well as a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The 8-speed Steptronic trans is also available.
BMW’s M Performance Division will soon produce an X4M high performance version.
The exterior design of the X4 is still in development. However, it is expected that the X4 will be a smaller X6 with a coupe-like profile.
