These SUVs are designed for Europe.
You’ll notice a significant difference between the xDrive30d version of the X5 or X6 SUVs if you open BMW’s German configurator. The M Performance diesel has 394 horsepower and 561 lbft (561 Newton-meters) while the lesser version packs 261 horsepower (620 Newton-meters), and the M Performance diesel packs 394 HP and 561 lb-ft (676 Nm). Bavarians have launched an xDrive40d to address this problem.
The two-stage turbocharging two-stage turbocharging engine powers the straight-six diesel 3.0-liter engine.
SUVs Offer 335 horsepower at 4,400 rpm, and 516 lbft (700 Nm), of torque from just 1,750. The mild-hybrid system provides an 11-hp temporary boost, which means that the SUVs can complete the sprint of 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h). It takes only 5.5 seconds. Both are standard equipped with xDrive and an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
An xDrive40d could prove more significant in the long-term, considering that BMW has stated that the quad-turbo diesel engine reserved for the M50d is on borrowed time. According to the German marque, the diesel beast is too complex and costly to produce. According to the latest information, the engine will gradually be phased out starting in the summer. The M550d and 750d are the first to go. Next up are the X5 M50d and X6 M50d as well as the X7 50d.
The new xDrive40d diesel variant will eventually replace the BMW SUVs as the range-topping diesel option. The diesel will not offer 59 horsepower and 45 lbft (60 Nm), however, it should be significantly cheaper than the M50d which is available in Germany starting at EUR94,000.
