Imagine a luxury Bavarian ute powered by a V8 engine.
We saw positive signs that BMW might join the pickup segment in the first months of 2018. Australian dealers of the brand expressed interest in seeing a Bavarian truck, or a ute, to compete with the Mercedes-Benz X Class. This makes sense, considering that truck sales account for almost 15% of all continent’s total revenue.
BMW confirmed earlier this month that it has no plans to enter the global premium truckmarket, stating that it is too small to justify a viable business case. Executives from the company claim that only Australia and North America are large enough markets to make this model profitable.
All that being said, there is a very slim chance of seeing a BMW-badged pickup. We can imagine the possibilities of an X7-based pickup truck, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to imagine. It’s Saturday after all.

A luxurious V8-powered small truck would not be wrong, except that it would not be built on a frame-on-frame chassis. Although BMW’s xDrive system may be the most advanced AWD on the market today, it won’t make the pickup a capable offroad vehicle.
