It features the same strange headlights as the 7 Series next-gen.
Although it’s easy for automakers to be criticized for releasing a multitude of SUVs, the truth is that companies are in business to make money, and that’s what’s selling these days.
BMW hasn’t increased its “X” lineup to the detriment of the traditional models. You can still buy a 1 Series hatchback, a 3 Series wagon, and a full-size 7 Series sedan. A long-roof M3 will be available soon.
BMW is currently testing an SUV range-topper in the interim. first-ever X8 Nurburgring. The prototype’s electrified nature is indicated by the stickers on its front doors and rear bumper. The extra cap at the driver’s side front end reveals that the SUV was powered by a plug-in hybrid engine.
Although it appears that the prototype was equipped with the production body, those are not the final taillights or headlights. The X8 used a provisional set similar to the next generation 7 Series spotted yesterday. We are tempted to believe that the front lights are lower than the original 8 Series. BMW may have used a split headlight design, or perhaps there is a separate camouflaged light assembly below the corners.
Although the disguise blocks the view of the grille, the kidneys look quite large in the same vein that the X7. Side profile shows a steeply sloped roofline that likely strips rearmost passengers of headroom. However, this is highly doubtful. The X8 will only be available with four or five seats, so it’s not clear if there is a third row.
The camouflage at the rear conceals what appears to have been a sportier design with wider taillights, as indicated by the large bulges at the tailgate. The camouflage hides a dual exhaust system. Some believe this prototype is the flagship X8 M. is a PHEV setup that produces around 750 horsepower from a twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 engine and an electric motor. This would make the X8 M BMW’s most powerful production vehicle.
The M50i version of the X7 is the top-of-the-line model. However, BMW appears to be preparing a full-fledged M variant of the X8, which could include a rear-wheel drive mode for the AWD system. The crown jewel will arrive approximately one year after the standard model. It could be released towards the end 2021.
