BMW plans to create a green supercar that is based on the most advanced technologies. The Z10 ED is the name of the new supercar. It will feature a straight-six turbo and a lithium-ion batteries.
Two-seat BMW called Z10 ED will be available. People familiar with the project claim that the Z10 ED will feature BMW’s advanced engine power technology and will not harm the environment. This is the result of the company’s Technik division, which was responsible for creating Z1 and Z8 cars straight from its workshops.
Efficient Dynamics stands for Efficient Design. This package combines BMW’s fuel-saving system with improved performance. The Z10 ED will showcase advanced technologies, body construction techniques, and drivelines. The car should weigh less than 1,400kg (3.086 pounds) thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminum chassis components. For the car, integrated door frames and sill panel are being investigated. Technology that works well will be used in lower volume models.
To complement a lithium-ion cell, a new straight-six high pressure turbo engine is under development. This engine makes use of the latest developments in direct injection, turbo charging and thermal technology to extract a lot of power from its small size. It is possible to expect a power output of approximately 400hp (298kW). The lithium-ion battery will also be equipped with brake regeneration technology to store and save energy.
The Z10 ED price estimates hover around PS80,000 (US$113,000) today. Production numbers will be very small.
