Porsche claims that the idea to set a production car lap record was born out of a dinner with passionate Porsche owners. “When David Donner and Jim Edwards, a Porsche collector, met Pete Stout, 000 editor, for dinner in Napa Valley last summer, the conversation quickly turned to the 100th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Stout was a partner with Donner in 2020, when their 911 GT2 RS Clubsport won the Time Attack 1 Class record. It wasn’t long until a plan was hatched for attempting the production car record. The team will run a Porsche 911 Turbo S equipped with the lightweight package up Pikes Peak in an attempt to beat the Bentley Continental GT’s time by 10 minutes and 18.488 seconds. This record will be set by David Donner, who was behind the world-record 911 Porsche 911 Turbo S.
The 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S produces 640 horsepower (477 Kilowatts), and 590 lb/ft (800 Newton meters) of torque. The turbochargers will allow the engine to breathe at high altitude events like the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
Porsche’s Light Weight Pack is also included on the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S used in this record attempt. This option includes a reduced sound insulation, thinner glasses, rear seat deletion, PASM Sport Suspension, Lowered 10mm, and fixed carbon bucket seats. The comprehensive weight loss program results in a total weight loss of 80lbs for the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S. Can the Porsche 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S break the Pikes Peak production car record?
