Bonkers Mid-Engined Ford Mustang Racer Has A Honda Odyssey V6 Swap

We love this bizarre race between pony horses in the 24 Hours of Lemons.

Over the years we have seen many crazy engine Swaps. The LS-swapped Winnebago The Mazda RX-8 equipped with a huge Cummins diesel. The Lada with three four-cylinder engines Those monsters had the engine in the right place (more or less). This 1967 Ford Mustang has a V6 from an Honda Odyssey minivan. It’s also transversely mounted behind its driver. This Ford Mustang is a mid-engined Ford minivan. This is so cool!

Friends, meet Dead Horse Beaters with their amazing race car, the Samurai Pony. Although the group is known for their strong wordplay, their creativity is even stronger. This car was designed to race in the 24 Hours Of Lemons at a very low budget. Here, would-be drivers and cheap beater cars compete to see who can have more fun. We’ve seen it all, from cars mounted upside-down to Jeeps disguised as tractors, so the exterior treatment on this vintage Pony Car seems minor. It’s absolutely stunning underneath.
We were able to learn more about the build through a Reddit thread.

This Mustang’s rear is home to the suspension and subframe of a 2004 Honda Accord. The V6 engine is lifted from a Honda Odyssey minivan. Why not keep the Accord’s engine? The Odyssey’s engine produces the same 240 horsepower, but is cheaper and more readily available at salvage yards around the globe. It is also reliable and can carry around 2,600 pounds, even though the Mustang has been gutted to its core.

The racing team’s latest adventure at New Jersey Motorsports Park is captured in the video below. The engine had a misfire, which caused the racing team to slow down. However, racing in Lemons isn’t always about being the first. It’s all about the fun and creativity. And yes, there’s nothing about being the first. The team claims that this Pony was originally a six-cylinder base model Mustang. It was actually found in a field and is now turning heads at race tracks across America. It’s nothing but great.
