Brabus works its magic on the Mercedes G-Class

Brabus’ new G recipe: More power, huge 23-inch wheels and carbon fiber.

Brabus unveiled its Smart ForTwo Cabriolet based HTML125R yesterday. Now, the well-respected German aftermarket specialist has a completely new project. They were among the first to work on the 2019 G-Class, and have now been able to purchase a brand new G500. The first order of business? First order of business? Upgrade the engine.

Twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine has been modified to produce an additional 78 horsepower (58kilowatts) as well as 74 pound-feet (1001 Newton-meters) of torque. This gives a grand total 493 hp (368kW) at 5,600 RPM and a mountain-moving 710 Nm from 2,250 RPM. The Mercedes can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. It will accelerate further until the electronic speed limiter kicks in at 130 mph (220 kph).

Brabus spent time fiddling with the eight-cylinder engine and decided to improve the G Class’ appearance. Brabus can now offer customers a greater variety of alloy wheels in sizes 20 to 23 inches with larger ones wrapped in R23 tires. The custom made hood from carbon fiber with a scoop is what really grabs attention.

The G-Class’s boxy body has many carbon fiber accents. It also features roof-mounted LED lights at both the front and back. Brabus also offers a stainless-steel exhaust system. It has two chrome tips on either side, and allows for the driver to choose between a quieter sport mode or a neighborly “coming back home” mode. The driver can choose between the two modes thanks to the active control flaps.

The possibilities are endless when it comes personalizing the G’s cabin. You can combine different types of leather with Alcantara and carbon fiber trim. You can also find aluminum pedals, scuff plates and wood accents in many finishes.

We’re not disappointed with the G500, but we are eager for Brabus to make its mark on the new G63.
