Bugatti admits it is thinking about an electric car

Bugatti may face the greatest challenge in building a practical car after building the fastest and most expensive cars.

Following the stunning Geneva release of La Voiture Noire (“the dark car”), Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann suggested that Bugatti might be looking to enter a different market segment. Winkelmann was talking to Automotive Europe about the La Voiture Noire, the $18.9million new car that was the most expensive in history.

He stated that after creating a series of fast cars at exorbitantly high prices, his next Bugatti project might be 180 degrees. He is thinking electrification, not hybrid performance systems like the ones that many luxury sports car makers were showing at Geneva.

Could it be a Taycan-based Sedan?

“I can see us making a battery-electric vehicle. It’s not about performance, but comfort. It’s all about daily useability. Winkelmann said, “This is what I see.”

Although it may seem odd for the company, this makes perfect sense. Bugatti’s customer information is quite different to what you would see at Ford or Chevrolet. Bugatti owners own 42 cars, with two Bugattis. The Chirons were purchased sight unseen by more than half the buyers – an incredible feat for any car, even one that costs $3 million.

Bugatti may be aware that not all of their customers actually use their cars. Perhaps Bugatti realizes that most of their customers don’t actually use their cars.

This means that Bugatti intends to create a luxurious, comfortable daily driver that allows hypercar owners to take advantage of all that Bugatti has to provide.
