There is also the possibility of electrification.
We first discussed Bugatti Chiron’s successor earlier in the week. Now we have more details. A new report by Automotive News states that the French marque may replace its two-door model with a four-door version.
“The four-door car has not died,” Bugatti president Wolfgang Durheimer said to the publication at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We reported that the company will be evaluating different concepts for its next hypercar. A final decision is expected to be made in late 2018. The actual engineering work will start a few months later.
The Chiron set a world record for running 0-249-0mph (0-400-0 km/h) in a single run. It will be produced for an additional eight years, slightly less than the Veyron’s twelve year lifespan. Bugatti plans to continue to be a one-nameplate manufacturer and will replace the hypercar with a single model. It is expected that it will arrive in 2024/25.
Durheimer said, “For the time that I can see, it will be one-model,”
The Chiron’s power comes entirely from an internal combustion engine. However, its successor could get some electrification. Automotive News reports that Bugatti is still considering hybrid, full-electric, and pure ICE powertrain options for its next hypercar.
Bugatti boss said that the longer the manufacturer waits to make the final decision, then the greater the chances of electrification in the new model. This is because battery and electric powertrain technologies are rapidly improving.
Durheimer said that the performance criteria will be used again because it is what our customers demand. “The ingredients can be changed.”
Bugatti currently has a four-year waiting list for the Chiron. Recently, they received a preorder for car number 300 from 500. Each year, 70 examples of the Chiron will be built.
