CAR, a British magazine, reports that the Bugatti Veyron will be able to sprint at 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in two seconds.
This latest report, just like the previous, says Bugatti will adopt the “Chiron” moniker for its Veyron successor. The car will continue to use the W16 8.0-liter motor, even though engineers had originally considered a 14-cylinder engine. The hypercar’s output is expected to exceed 1,500 PS (1.103 kW), which would allow it to achieve “performance figures that rival F1 cars.”
The Torque will remain at 1,500 Nm (1.106 lbft), just like the Veyron Super Sport. However, the two cars won’t share much in common since the Chiron will allegedly contain 92% new or modified components. The engine will be easier to use on a daily basis, and it is expected that the engine will get e-turbos and direct injection. Cylinder deactivation will also be possible.
The performance of the Chiron is impressive. It is capable of completing the 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) in just 2 seconds. Top speed will increase from 258 mph (415km/h) to 288 mph (463 km/h).
Bugatti would like the Chiron return 14 mpg UK (11.1 mpg US, 20 liters/100 km), which would be slightly lower than the Veyron Super Sport’s 12.2 mpg UK (13.1 mpg US, 23.1 liters/100 km) in the combined cycle.
Bugatti had originally planned to launch the new Chiron in 2016. However, Ferdinand Piech, Volkswagen chairman, said that the Chiron needs more work and is now ready for a 2016 launch.
