Mate Rimac claims that the new model will amaze us.
Mate Rimac, a real estate mogul and Bugatti collector, spoke out about plans to create a hypercar back in August 2021 during the Monterey Car Week. The only thing he said was that the new model, which will be following the Chiron’s success, is currently in development and could be available in 2024. The CEO of Bugatti Rimac, the newly established company, had more to say about the mysterious machine.
The 33-year old Croatian entrepreneur, who is also a director of Bugatti Rimac’s corporate structure, promised that there was still a future for the old-fashioned combustion engine in a video. The new hypercar will feature never-before-seen components on a production vehicle, he promises.
“I also support a combustion engine.” This statement raises one question: Will the replacement for the Chiron retain the W16? It is possible for Lamborghini to keep the V12 alive in time for the Aventador’s successor. One can only hope that the Molsheim peeps will ensure that the quad-turbo, 8.0-liter meets increasingly stringent emissions regulations.
However, just because the ICE is kept doesn’t mean that the next Bugatti will abandon electrification. We don’t think it’s too surprising that the next V12 engine from Sant’Agata Bolognese won’t be hybrid. The hybrid setup would have a massive W16 engine as the heart. This is considering the Super Sport 300+’s incredible 1,577 horsepower.
Mate Rimac has made previous statements and is open-minded about Bugatti’s future. He stated last year that he might do “something crazy” or “something completely insane that nobody thinks about.” While a long-hood coupe and even an SUV are under consideration, a pure electric car using Nevera knowhow will likely be a matter of when instead of if. Bugatti Rimac, however, has pledged to invest a lot more effort in a potential electric car than simply rebadging a Nevera.
