Bugatti is always there for you thanks to telemetry.
Bugatti is proud to remind us that it was the first manufacturer to offer a telemetry service on a road-going model since the introduction of the Veyron in 2004. It can also be installed on the Chiron. In case of an emergency, Bugatti’s “flying physicians” will notify you immediately about any issues, such as a poorly inflated tire.
The telemetry system is based on Formula 1 and DTM race cars and relies primarily on mobile radio to monitor the condition a Veyron or Chiron, 24 hours a days, 7 days a weeks. It won’t work in areas without mobile network coverage. The technology has improved significantly since the Veyron was launched 14 years ago. It can now monitor over 10,000 signals with the more advanced Chiron.
It monitors key components like the quad-turbo 8.0-liter engine and the seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. However, it also looks after hardware such as the infotainment system or air conditioning. Bugatti is staffed with three “flying doctors”, who are responsible for supervising the Veyrons, Chirons and based on their location. One handles Europe and Russia, another handles Asia/Pacific and the Middle East, and the third takes care of North America.
The three flying doctors are supported by mechanics from Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim (France) as well as 34 dealers and service partners around the globe. Customers are free to choose not to use the telemetry system. However, they can opt out of remote diagnostics and real-time support.
It was all possible thanks to an aluminum box and a customer service laptop that Bugatti used to notify a Chiron owner, nearly 6,000 km (3,728 miles) away, that his front-left tire had not been at the ideal pressure. It measures 140 millimeters (5 inches) wide, 50mm (2 inches), high, and 100mm (4 inches long) and is mounted in the hypercar. All the information is sent to Bugatti’s computer at home. The advanced telemetry system can work in both directions. Not only can the Veyron and the Chiron send information to Bugatti, but also the customer service can transmit data directly to the cars. Bugatti can transmit data to your car “to a limited extent” if you have a W16-powered beast in your garage.
It’s a great time to be alive, even if you have the means to afford a Bugatti.
