The showcar was designed and manufactured in China. It has a huge 30-inch screen.
China has received the Ultium platform for the Electra-X. This is a pure electric concept that was developed and designed in China by GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center. This SUV-style coupe revives the name of a luxury full-size car that was used for seven generations from 1959 to 1990. This sleek EV is a successor to the flagship model.
The revised Buick badge was unveiled alongside the Wildcat idea. The Electra-X sports a swoopy body in Satin White Metallic. It rides on 21-inch wheels featuring an aerodynamic design. The new electric SUV follows current design trends with a full-width lightbar at the rear, slim lights up the front, side cameras and pop-out door handles. The electric SUV’s overhangs are short and indicate that it is built on an electric vehicle platform.
The suicide doors and absence of B-pillars make it easy to get inside the cabin. The 30-inch screen is the centerpiece of the interior. It boasts a sharp 6K resolution, and combines the driver’s display and the infotainment system. To make it easy to access the HVAC controls or audio settings, a smaller screen was mounted on the floating console.
Buick has done an excellent job hiding the small air vents. They are hidden within the dashboard. The seats are covered in fabric made from PET plastic bottles. The retro-futuristic steering wheels are our favorite. It appears that there are haptic controls for the door cards, which can replace physical window switches.
Buick does not discuss technical specifications as they are too secretive. The concept SUV is tech-rich, with super cruise and 5G connectivity as well as customizable voice control and support for OTA updates. You can remotely park it using an app on your smartphone.
Although there are no details regarding a possible production version, it is likely that the Electra-X will show Buick’s EV plans for the Chinese market.
