The Buick wagon is back.
Look familiar? Opel’s new Insignia travels across the pond to become the 2018 Buick Royal. The outgoing Regal was available only as a sedan in the U.S.; the new Regal is available in a different body style. The new Regal Sportback, which will be a four-door sedan, will feature a liftback design similar to the Audi A7. For those who want even more versatility, or just something unique, there’s also the new Regal TourX. This is a high-riding alternative to the Audi Allroad or Volvo V60 Cross Country.
The new Regal uses a turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine. It produces 250 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet torque in the front-wheel-drive Sportback. This engine is mated with a nine speed automatic transmission. The Sportback can also be ordered with all-wheel drive. This increases the torque output to 295 Lb-ft. However, it is only available with an 8-speed automatic. TourX comes only with the AWD/8AT combination and 250/295 power ratings.
Buick claims that the Regal Sportback will offer more cargo space than the Audi A5 Sportback or BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The TourX wagon will have more cargo space than the Audi A4 Allroad and BMW 3 Series Sport Wagon.
Both Regal versions offer the latest technology and driver-assistance equipment from General Motors. Standard equipment includes a seven-inch screen with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but an optional eight-inch screen with factory navigation.
