V8s galore!
The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 appears to be in the final stages. We are hearing that preproduction could start later in the week. Several prototypes were captured in Marietta, Ohio, to give us a better idea of what is happening in Chevy’s Corvette R&D division right now. We have exclusive access to spy footage and photos of C8 widebody trial cars thanks to the Corvette blogger team.
There are four of them, as you can see from the gallery and the video at top of the page.
Two Corvette C8 prototypes were built with center-mounted exhausts and one with exhausts mounted at the corners. According to our source, Tadge Juechter, Executive Corvette Chief Engineer was present at the test session. When the big guns are present, you know it’s serious business.
According to available information, there was a film crew that documented the testing. This could indicate that Chevy is also working on a documentary about the Corvette Z06 or Corvette ZR1. Josh Holder, Corvette Chief Engineer, was recorded speaking on camera. He probably gave some information about the development process of the sports car. In front of the camera was also filmed a test driver meeting.
According to the latest information, the Corvette Z06 will be powered by a double overhead camshaft V8 motor . A recent report suggests that it will closely match Cadillac’s 4.2-liter Blackwing motor, but it will be naturally aspirated. According to unofficial data, it will produce 617 horsepower (460 kilowatts).
These videos and photos from Corvette Blogger confirm that the Z06 will be riding on crazy 345/25-series rear tires while the fronts are 275. We knew this, but it is amazing to see such massive rubber on real-world prototypes.
We are hopeful that the Corvette Z06’s beta production will begin soon. A report recently stated that the Z06 could make its full debut before July. We expect more information to come soon, so please keep checking back.
