The hotter ‘Vette is now available for steamrollers
We have seen many Corvette Z06 spy photos. Not to mention the occasionally spy videoof this supercar, the Bow Tie. The common thread is the massive rear tires, which are clearly wider than those on the C8 Corvette Stingray. The back of the stock C8 tires measures 305 millimeters.
Corvette Blogger has given us some insight into the Z06 rubber’s true width. A person referred to only as Corvette_Ron_Himself came across a fleet C8 test cars in Arizona recently and, in a moment, walked up to the rear and took a detailed photo of the tire. This prototype is a 345/25 series Michelin, mounted on a 21 inch wheel. It’s not surprising that these tires have such a strong stance in comparison to the Stingray. The combined tire width is an additional 3 inches.
345mm (13.5 inches), is the same width as the LamborghiniCountach’s 1978 arrival. It was the largest tire to be fitted to a production vehicle in 1978. The width of the LaFerrari and Ferrari Enzo is the same as that of the record-setting 300-mph SSC Tuatara. To get wider, one must go up to Bugatti. The Chiron measures 355mm and the Veyron is 365mm. The Corvette engineers seem eager to get the Z06 planted as soon as possible.
We believe the new Z06 will be traction-challenged even with wider tires and rear-biased weight distribution. The flat-plane-crankshaft mill will reportedly redline at 9,000 RPM and develop between 600 and 650 horsepower (447 and 485 kilowatts) in the process, but the tire torturing won’t stop there. We have the Zora hybrid, which could produce 1,000 horsepower (746 kW) and 850 hp (634kW) in the next ZR1.
We expect to see the C8 Z06 make its debut in 2022.
