A new luxury sedan could be a sign of a higher-end model than the CT6.
Cadillac’s Escala Concept was revealed in California prior to this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This is to demonstrate future design directives for its luxury brand. This car is a striking concept that could indicate a Cadillac model that sits higher than the CT6.
Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen stated that Escala was a declaration of intent for the next iteration Cadillac’s design language and technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Escala is Cadillac’s second-best character and signals the brand’s return at the pinnacle in premium.
The Cadillac Escala, a long and large car that has serious presence, is half a ft longer than the CT6 sedan at 210.5 inches. The Cadillac Escala is built on the same rear-wheel-drive platform made of mixed materials as the CT6. Although it appears like a three-box sedan, the liftback design allows for cargo space, much like the Audi A7 or Porsche Panamera.
The rear retains the same straight-edged, vertical-taillight appearance of previous Cadillac sedan trunks but with a slight horizontal element at its top. The Escala’s front design, however, is a significant improvement on the brand’s previous models. The Cadillac trademark vertical running lights are still present, but the ultra-skinny OLED headlights (organic light emitting diode), are now recessed into narrow slits on either side of grille. The grille is a huge trapezoid and the hood has bold strakes that lead to the windshield.
The Cadillac Escala’s profile is broken down by two chrome elements that look like hockey sticks. One at the bottom of the rear windows, and the other coming out from the 22-inch front tires. The door sheetmetal only shows small marks indicating that the doors have recessed handles.
The interior of the car should combine a driver-focused cabin with a chauffeur-ready backseat. The dashboard is minimalistic and dominated by three OLED displays, which serve as instruments and information display. The steering wheel is also minimalistic, featuring a small hub. There are several control knobs on the center console that provide tactile controls in addition to voice and touchscreen commands. Cadillac claims that the interior is decorated with hand-cut and hand-stitched hand-stitched leather. To entertain the rear passengers, tablet-like screens can slide out of the seatbacks.
Andrew Smith, executive director at Cadillac Global Design, stated in a statement that “my brief to the designers was for a car you desperately desire to drive and one in which to be driven.” This interior is not a one-off design. It consists of two themes.
The 4.2-liter biturbo V8 motor of undisclosed horsepower is under the hood. Cadillac claims the prototype engine has cylinder activation and is part of a “new system in development” for future Cadillac models.
Given all the details about the platform and powertrain and the fact that there have been rumors for many years about the CT8, it is not difficult to imagine an Escala being produced. Cadillac seems to be emphasizing this point by emphasizing the fact that the concept car shows the direction its styling and technologies will go in the coming years.
De Nysschen stated in a statement that Escala could be added to the existing product plan, “depending on the development market segment for large luxury sedans,”
