Tomorrow’s cars could have a lot more technology.

Cadillac aims to be a fully-electrified brand by end of decade. This ambitious goal is just beginning. The Lyriq will be produced by the company in the first quarter of this year. This will be followed by the Celestiq sedan. But what happens after that? Cadillac will not say what the future models will look like, but Automotive News has a new interview.

The new Cadillacs will be inspired by a number of other recent concepts, including the single-passenger vertical lift-off and landing vehicle and the autonomous shuttle. The interior space will play a key role in future products. If fully autonomous cars become a reality, it will require reimagining. Cadillac will have to think about what passengers do in a car if they aren’t driving.

Joe Baker, GM’s creative interior designer manager for advanced design, stated to the publication that customers want “something radically new” when it comes electric cars. To make a car feel modern and premium, automakers may need to do more than just add large screens to its interior. Cadillac’s PersonalSpace, SocialSpace and the InnerSpace concepts all play an important role in these designs and features.

Cadillac’s InnerSpace concept was designed to create a beautiful and welcoming interior environment for an autonomous luxury vehicle. Cadillac placed technology at the heart of this concept. AI software added a layer to personalize vehicle settings, such as music and temperature. The vehicle could monitor your heart rate and blood pressure, and use that information to decide your mood and the vehicle setting you want.

These concepts might be an inspiration for Cadillac, but don’t expect them to ever see production. These are a little too far-fetched for the road and sky, but Cadillac is right to look ahead. The steering wheel and pedals have been the dominant feature of interior design for over 100 years. Autonomous cars will be the future, but it will take years for the technology to fully realize. We’ll still need to have something to do behind a wheel if we want them.
