This could include a $250,000 SUV with a high-end range.
Cadillac has a mission. The company plans to add four more crossovers and four sedans to its expanding lineup, building on the success of the XT5 cross-country crossover, which was sold over 5,000 copies in March.
Automobile Magazine reports that CEO Johan de Nysschen plans to increase volume by focusing on China and investing more than $800m in its U.S. retail business by 2020. This will add eight new models to the total.
The new models will be available in a range of sizes, from a BMW X1-sized SUV (likely the XT1/XT2) to a larger CT8 flagship sedan which will arrive in 2021. We’ll also see the XT4, which will rival the BMW X3, a second gen XT5 that rivals the BMW X5, and an XT7 or XT8 to rival rival the BMW X7. There will also be at least three new sedans, including long-awaited CTS replacement.
Cadillac will continue to push for more efficient cars, crossovers, and sedans in addition to a new range of crossovers and sedans. De Nysschen stated in the interview that electrification was a necessity. “But, in terms of plugin hybrid and EV technology we must let GM lead the way.”
Cadillac had previously confirmed that Cadillac’s range-topping vehicle would be the Escala concept. It made its debut just a few months back. According to reports, it will be a spaceframe-crossover that de Nysschen claims will be “more organic” and have different proportions. This particular model may be priced at around $250,000. As the XT4, the first model of the new range, makes its debut later this year, we’ll be able to learn more.
