Can BMW’s distant Japanese counterpart take on a serious M-car?
Who doesn’t love a good drag race? What’s more, who doesn’t love a drag race between two cars that are very different? Ok, maybe they aren’t so different beneath their vastly different exteriors but the Toyota Supra It still has a lot to offer (all jokes aside about “It’s A BMW”). The Toyota Supra would normally not dare pull up to the starting line in front of a BMW M4 The Supra is a clever car with many tricks. The BMW M4 is the distant cousin of the Z4, which is usually down on horsepower and torque by nearly 100 and 37 pound-feet respectively. However, the Toyota Supra is not stock in this video. Mat Watson and his team will take care of it. carwow team It is possible to combine these two things.
The Toyota Supra includes a number of upgrades, including a downpipe and air intake. Also, the Supra has an ECU tune from Evolve tuning. The Evolve tuning guys specialize in BMWs for many, many years. The total horsepower is now 440, with 500 pound-feet torque. These numbers outperform the BMW M4’s 431 horses (in reality BMW prefers to give conservative numbers) and 406 pound feet of torque. The Supra weighs in at 3,461 lbs, while the M4 is slightly heavier at 3,646 lbs. The Supra upgraded should, theoretically, be quicker, brake better and basically sweep the floor with its M4 counterpart, right?
Let’s just say things weren’t as clear as we thought, and both cars fought hard until the end. Although the Supra’s aftermarket exhaust sounds great, I might prefer the more practical M4. C Check out the video above, and enjoy.
