The F-150 Lightning Lightning’s incredible torque makes this race more close than you might think.
The Fast Lane Studios is just one of many channels that cover the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. These channels must come up with innovative ideas to keep the competition alive and to keep the content fresh. What about a race between a Tesla Model 3 and an F-150 Lightning? The Tesla Model 3 is the Performance version, which makes it even more exciting.
The Tesla Model 3 performance is one of today’s fastest cars. You can say the same about many other vehicles. This Tesla performance sedan doesn’t have the same speed as the Model S, or other rivals such as the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air. The Model 3 Performance’s 3.1 second zero-to-60-mph speed is impressive considering its cost ($62,990).
Although the Ford F-150 Lightning was not designed for drag racing, it is likely that any EV will perform well on these shorter straight-line races due to its instant off-the-line torque, smooth acceleration, and quick off-the-line torque. The Lightning is capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds.
The above video was posted by TFL on one of its channels. It just so happens to be the channel that applies EV-specific content TFLEV. The F-150 Lightning is taken to the Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado for a tune and test event. The event allows anyone to attend, pay a fee and use the track.
Tommy, one of the hosts, predicts that the Lightning will make a quarter-mile run “in the 15s”, which is impressive for such a powerful pickup truck. After watching the Ram TRX do a quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds, Tommy decided to place the electric F-150 against a Model 3 Performance.
The Tesla driver can launch the truck with a better launch than Tommy in his F-150 Lightning. However, the truck accelerates with an incredible urgency. Although the Model 3 Performance is clear winners, it’s not as fast as the electric pickup truck. The official time of the Tesla is 11.72 compared to the Lightning’s 12.81. The trap speed of the electric F-150 is 104.57 mph, compared to the Model 3’s 113.54.
It is amazing that a pickup truck of this size can complete a quarter-mile in a time of just one second less than a Model 3 Performance. This was even after a horrible launch. The Lightning is also faster than the Ram TRX Tommy before he took his turn.
Tommy attempts again in the F-150 Lightning. While it launches better, it isn’t able to accelerate as fast. It seems that there is a bit of power loss towards the end.
