Spoiler alert: Can-Am is fast.
You’ve probably heard of the RAM TRX unless you have been living under a rock for a while. This is a simple formula: Ram 1500 + Hellcat engines = one of most exciting pickup trucks on the market. How does it compare to an off-road vehicle such as the Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo RR, however? The Fast Lane Truck can help you answer this question.
The drag race on dirt will be compared to the time trial on dirt and the drag race on pavement. Although the machines perform in different ways, we believe that they will produce very similar results.
We can’t forget power numbers since the first challenge is a straight-line sprint. The TRX’s power numbers are impressive at over 700 horsepower (5221.9 kilowatts), while the Can-Am’s is just 195 hp (15.4 kW). However, the Maverick is lighter than the Ram. It turns out that the TRX’s supercharger is larger than its smaller counterpart. The latter won the first race but the winner was the one after the second.
The dirt time trial was a similar story, with both competitors being extremely close in the timesheets. Although the TRX was five second slower than the TRX, the driver was still being conservative. We can’t blame him, though, since the base truck is an incredible $69,995.
Drag racing on paved roads proved to be quite a challenge. The Hellcat engine drove the pickup to victory. The Mav won the race on a second attempt, despite a better launch. Despite being very different competitors, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the Can-Am X3 costs half as much as the TRX.
