Marketing meets art.
Art cars are not a new concept. The automobile is used by artists to create exciting and beautiful works of art. The beauty of an art car is that no two pieces are the same. The most well-known example of such creations is the BMW . Other automakers, like Rolls-Royce or Alfa Romeo, have also dabbled in this creative waters. Audi had previously made an art car, but this Audi R8 is not an official project. The car was instead commissioned by ABT Sportsline, an aftermarket tuning company that is known for taking Audi performance cars and making them insane.
The company hired Timo Wuerz, a cartoonist, to decorate an R8 in preparation for two automotive events that overlap in May: the Tuning World Bodensee in Germany and the legendary Worthersee–Treffen at Lake Worth in Austria. ABT and Wuerz teamed up to finish the unique project, which looks great.
Overlaid with pink diamond patterns, the design features several women wearing night-sky patterns throughout. The diamond pattern is replaced by white dots near the rear. These white dots eventually blend onto the rear bumper and completely cover the rear. It is striking and artistic, but not overwhelming. The R8’s athletic lines enhance the design. This car could easily have been a cartoon.
Wuerz is a well-known name in the industry. These include automakers like Volkswagen and Suzuki as well as Daimler, The German Post and Lamborghini Beverly Hills. He has also worked for Disney, Marvel, DC Comics, and others. He has a lot of talent and has some very important clients.
ABT will send cars to both events, with the Audi R8 wrapped and heading to Lake Worth. Worthersee-Treffen is May 9-12, if you are in the area.
