The company will take traditional shapes and add modern technology.
Caton, a British boutique sports car brand, is about to launch a two seater. It is inspired by the 1950s styling. Salon Prive London will host the full unveiling. It runs from April 21 through 23.
Caton’s initial model is shown in a teaser image. The exterior features include a simple wraparound windshield and rounded styling. We believe there is some inspiration from the Jaguar C-Type (comparison above), but there is a prominent point at the tail that may be for the Caton
“It’s an exciting precision reincarnation an icon, one which will set new standards for coachbuilding,” stated Tim Strafford CEO of Caton’s vehicle building partner Envisage Group.
Caton isn’t making a new series of the classic model. Caton intends to take the original model as a base but use modern technology and manufacturing techniques to create the vehicle. Although the vehicle retains its retro appearance, it has been updated to be more user-friendly.
Caton claims that the tolerances of the vehicle’s tooling are as low as 0.2 millimeters (0.008 in). To form aluminum panels, Caton employs craftspeople who use English Wheels.
Modern technology could be added to the interior of the Caton sports car. This is a feature that is expected on current models. Digital gauges are possible.
Caton only says that the vehicle’s powertrain has a significant performance improvement over the original. We don’t know the model of this sports car’s inspiration so it’s difficult to estimate how much power. We can’t rule it out that the vehicle is powered by an electric motor.
Caton announced that it will continue to work in the automotive sector and other areas. Caton mentions furniture in the release as something that it might do later. The brand would also consider other products based on the same ethos: taking a traditional product and adding modern updates to it.
