It’s quite fast for a Bentley.
Are super-luxury sedans from England that fast? Take a look at this Bentley Flying Spur as it speeds up to nearly 175 mph during its Autobahn top-seep run. The Bentley Flying Spur is not fast at first glance. However, it has a leather-clad interior and massage seats.
Although the Bentley Flying Spur V8 was built in Crewe (England), it is supported by its German friends. Bentley is part the Volkswagen Group’s unique brand portfolio and enjoys shared drivetrain components and expertise. Crewe’s skilled craftsmen in England hand sew the leather and carve the wood interior trim. They then hand assemble the cars with great care. The Germans also deliver the components of the powertrain to England, in a perfect combination of skills sharing.
The Bentley Flying Spur uses the Volkswagen Group MSB Platform, which is also used in the Porsche Panamera and Bentley Continental. The Flying Spur is able to handle like a Porsche, but the extra weight of the Bentley’s luxury features doesn’t help it set faster times at the Nurburgring.
The Bentley Flying Spur uses a special version of the Volkswagen Group Twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 engine that is used in many other vehicles. The Flying Spur’s 4.0-liter V8 engine produces 542 horsepower (404 Kilowatts), and 568 lb/ft (770 Newton meters) of torque. The V8 is coupled to an 8 speed dual-clutch transmission. This transmits power via an all-wheel drive system to the pavement.
Bentley claims that the Flying Spur V8 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed at 198 mph. Even though we weren’t able to see the Flying Spur reach its limits of performance, it was amazing to watch this luxury car on the Autobahn.
