We hope to see the car on a racetrack.
It’s safe for us to say Bugatti blew everyone away last Friday at Pebble Beach with its highly-anticipated Divo. We assumed that this car would be a Chiron with a few aero updates. Technically, that’s still true – the car has the bones of a 1,500-horsepower (okay technically 1,479 HP) Chiron. However, the aero package goes further than a big spoiler. It also features clever vents. These new photos by Bugatti highlight some of these details.
The most obvious change is the new front clip. This redesign did not reduce drag but also improved cooling. The big front spoiler gave the front tires more bite and increased their grip. The roof has been reworked so that it functions like a large NACA duct. Also, the active rear wing from the Chiron is significantly larger than the one on the Chiron. It also features new rear bodywork with insanely cool taillights. This makes it impossible to mistake it for a Chron, no matter what angle you look at it.
The Chiron and its Veyron precursor used softer, more elegant bodies, while the Divo’s edgier lines remind us in many aspects of the aggressive EB110 of the 1990s. It’s not uncommon for drastic changes to an existing model to lead to awkward proportions. But the Divo isn’t awkward – it looks fast enough that it can set records while sitting still.
Unfortunately, only 40 of these cars will be made. Even for those who have $5.8 million, it’s too late. The production run has already sold out. Bugatti hopes to keep one and take it to the races so that we can witness this hyper-machine turning corners and setting records. You can view the new images in our expanded Bugatti Divo gallery.
