The clothing line was inspired by Honda’s 1964 entry into Formula One.
Before Honda was the car company that we all know, the company was involved in motorsports. Japanese automaker Honda entered Formula One with its RA271 race car in the historic racing series. Patrick Calello is an award-winning designer and brand strategist who used Honda’s racing history as inspiration to create a new line of apparel.
Calello says, “I have been fascinated by Honda Motor Co.’s motorsports history since my teens.” Calello says, “I know there’s many people who share my passion for Honda Brand and many others who don’t know much about the inspiring history of innovation. We searched the archives, studied the history of Honda and became historians of the company’s past.
This clothing line was inspired by the RA271 as well as Honda’s 1964 foray into Formula One. There are many shirts featuring the iconic car front. Jackets can be ordered with designs inspired from the vintage grand prix team apparel.
Bruce Garfield, Honda & Acura Brand Licensing says that the Vintage Culture line is a welcome addition to their family of officially licensed products. “Patrick has captured Honda’s rich history of innovation and triumph in his designs.”
Honda’s F1 career was successful, with more than 70 victories and six Constructor’s World Championships. Honda continues to use motorsports for testing new technologies and innovations that will eventually make their way into everyday automobile products.
Calello didn’t indicate which segment of Honda’s history his clothing line would focus on. Honda’s history spans from rally racing and IndyCar to motorcycle and off-road driving. The current crop of shorts looks great, and has a retro look that’s appealing.
